OYEZ! OYEZ! John Litherland, first Town Crier for 200 years, won his first competition against Criers from across England. The Secretary has written offering the Society’s congratulations. The Society made a donation of £75 towards the purchase of the Crier’s regalia.
The Clerk to the Town Council has noted … “that should the regalia not be in use for any period of time due to the position becoming vacant, the Council is to arrange for its safe keeping at the Museum for display purposes.”
The Society hopes that this will not have to happen and that the Crier continues to be heard throughout North Staffordshire and indeed England. OYEZ! OYEZ!
